Subjects

School admin

Subjects are the learning areas you teach. English. Mathematics. Civic Education. Classes pick from this list when you assign a teacher to each one.

What you need first

  • A school-admin sign-in
  • The subject names your school actually uses this year (the ones on the printed scheme, not a wish list)
Subjects at Meadowbrook College. Add each learning area here before you assign class subjects.

Steps

1. Open Subjects

Under School management, press Assessment Templates. Open the Catalog tab, then press Subjects. You should see Subjects Catalog and the Add Subject button.

2. Add a subject

Press Add Subject. The dialog is Add New Subject. Type Subject Name (Mathematics) and Subject Code (MATH). Press Create. Keep the name the school already uses on paper. Teachers hate seeing “Maths” on one list and “Mathematics” on another.

3. Assign subjects to a class

Open Classes, open a class, then press Add Subject. The dialog is Add Subject to Class. Pick the Subject, pick the Teacher, press Add Subject again. A class with no subject teacher cannot take a subject assessment. Ngozi Ibe cannot grade Civic Education until you assign her.

What done looks like

  • Subjects Catalog lists each name and code with an Active badge.
  • The class page shows a teacher next to each subject.
  • New Assessment lets you pick those subjects.

Common mistakes

  • Adding “Maths” and “Mathematics” as two rows. Pick one spelling and stay with it.
  • Creating a New Assessment before the class has that subject. The subject picker will look empty.
  • Building twenty subjects you might teach “someday.” Add what this year needs.
